Feb 12, 2011: WEC Announces the formation of World Trials Canada As of February 12th, 2011, the trials division of the WEC will now be recognized as WTC--World Trials Canada. The name change is to reflect the trials section of the WEC as its own entity. The name will represent the global position of trials in Canada while continuing to push the limits of our sport in this country. Now in its third full year of successfully operating the only truly national championship for many years in Canada, the WTC will continue to be the leader in elevating not only the public image of trials in Canada, but the quality of the events. The WTC understands that this is the beginning of many exciting announcements regarding the future of trials in Canada, and it remains dedicated to making all aspects of the sport grow. The WTC is formalizing the announcement of the WTC trials council, which has, in fac, been in place for over three years. The council will be in charge of scheduling and governing the national trials body with the help of the following members: Steve Fracy (Vancouver Island), Dave Rhodes (BC Interior/Okanagan), November 16, 2010 - National Championship schedule for 2011 The WEC has announced the calendar for the 2011 national championship series. The series will commence on the May long weekend (May 21 and 22) at Summerland, BC, where Dave Rhodes will organize the event in combination with his very popular Outlaw trial. The Outlaw has been going for the last 23 years, and always attracts a very large, enthusiastic entry. Dave will also run his popular Outlaw vintage trial on the same weekend (May 23). It promises to be a wonderful weekend of trials. The second pair of trials for the WEC national championship will be at the Morin Heights Ski Resort in the Laurentian Mountains, north of Montreal on July 16th and 17th. This is a wonderful new area which was used by ATAQ in 2010. Martin Roy reports that it will make a great venue for the national rounds. With locations in the Okanagan Valley of BC and the Montreal area of Quebec, competitors will save a day or two's driving in either direction compared to last year. WEC will be making announcements regarding pre-shipment of bikes, and the pre-trial storage of bikes at the trials venues. May 19, 2009 - Round 1 & 2 Results from Summerland, BC The First ever WEC Canadian Trials Championship, was held in Summerland last weekend, with almost perfect weather conditions, for all three days. Round #1 was held on Saturday, and Round #2 on Sunday. The event was very well attended with 54 riders on Saturday and 55 on Sunday and everybody seemed to have fun. Unfortunately we only had one rider from Eastern Canada, but Jonathan English showed lots of style, and was very impressive on section #12 on Sunday coming very close to getting a “clean.” The riders were started at 1 minute intervals by the time keeper Lorraine Fracy, at 10am. The loose uphill in section #1 proved to be a struggle for the Juniors. The other classes had few problems as well. The Champ and Experts found the rocky steps of #3 difficult on lap one and we saw a number of crashes, but none that caused any injury. The double section of #4 & 5 proved to be the big point takers on Saturday. We saw some great rides from Dean Wandler and Chris Tronnes through these sections. It was then off on a ride across the open flower filled meadow to the huge rock slab at #6. Grouse hill was next and Steve Fracy later said this was his “Bogy” section. The flat in 4th Hill climb at #9 stopped many riders, and although the rock walls at #10 were menacing, Christy Williams escaped with just a dab. Full event results on our results tab. |
